[Find us in Portland: our bike tours and our Eastside walking tours start at our shop at 833 SE Main Street, #124. Our downtown walking tours all begin at Director Park, and our Forest Park urban hiking tour starts at Clearing Cafe. Our new walking tour of the macabre ghost history of Portland starts at Revolution Hall.]
We write our stories with rich characters and plot lines, as dramas with complex motivations, but most importantly and in everything we do: we take you into the setting. The patterns of Pioneer Square. The trails of Forest Park. The poetry of Poet’s Beach.
Ours are tours that tell a story of Portland, each with its own narrative thread. We see these experiences as a way to explore the most interesting kind of tale — the one in which you are moving through the space while recounting the history (and predicting the future) of the streets, bridges, rivers, buildings, parks, gardens, forests and people around you.
When you walk and ride a bike through our city we want you to know it, not just the directions and street names, where you fit in the grid; but also where we are in the context of the world and time. Where did the rocks come from? How old is that rose? Who gave this street its name?
We tell stories on these pages and with our tours: every story is different, every narrative unfolds as a changeable story, influenced by the weather, seasons, events and passers-by. What will you learn of the story of Portland; and what will add to your story?
