weekly during Saturday market season, March – December
From farmer’s market to Saturday market, this 8-10 mile bike ride takes you Portland’s best food growers, makers, bakers and artisans! Fill your panniers and your soul!
We love Saturdays! Nearly year-round, we have a plethora of good things to choose from, whether it’s cinnamon roll day at our favorite bakery or the best time to get whatever produce is fresh and in season. From the city’s best breakfast burritos to the hand-blown glass art, from the breezy ride down the waterfront to the stately park blocks, this bike ride has everything good about Saturday in the city. We start in the inner Eastside, where we will fit you for a bike and helmet, and pop over to our neighbor who will introduce you to the city’s best handmade sweet pastry.
It’s a Portland ritual to leave the Portland Farmer’s Market with your bike pannier overflowing with cut flowers in every color and a couple of giant bunches of kale.
From here, we will meander over the Tillikum Crossing and up the hill to the Portland Farmer’s Market. We’ll give you a walk through the market, showing you some of our favorites. Don’t worry, we have panniers for you (and some spare room in ours just in case). We’ll give you a little time to shop after we give you a historical and season-specific introduction.
Next it’s down the Park Blocks past the museums in the Cultural District — with a quick stop to say hello to the art and history — past the Pioneer Courthouse Square, and then down to the waterfront for a ride down the river. We’ll stop at the Portland Saturday Market for another walk through to meet a few makers and let you loose for some shopping and coffee drinking.
Visiting the Portland Saturday Market is an unmissable part of the city’s experience. It’s the longest continuously operating open air craft market in North America, and the heart and soul of makers!
At the end of our shopping visit, we’ll loop through the Old Town and Chinatown neighborhood. We’ll pull up at Voodoo Doughnuts for a photo and a story before heading over past one of the best coffee shops in the city and past the Lan Su Chinese Garden. We’ll make sure you know where you may want to go back later. From here we’ll cross the bridge again to head back toward the inner east side.
You’ll visit two important markets, ride over two bridges, and pull in quickly to some of the most important icons in the city. We’ll immerse ourselves in color, food and crafts. All along the way, we’ll tell the stories of the city we love.
Bikes, helmets and water provided. The first sweet treat is on us. 3.5 hours, $65
