This is our favorite tour — redesigned for groups with riders who are uncomfortable with car traffic or smaller children! One of the most unique experiences in the world, riding down pathways made in the path of the historic highway built for Model Ts with the spectacular Columbia Gorge unfolding beside us. We transport our guests and bikes in comfortable vans, and our guides ride with our very small groups. You’ll get personal attention and the safest experience we can provide.
We’ll meet Skamania Lodge or another point in the central gorge (with an option to transfer from Portland), then take about a 15 minute drive west along the Columbia River Gorge. Here we’ll start with a visit to Multnomah Falls (if desired), the tallest waterfall in Oregon and the most photographed in the US. Depending on your group, we will choose between a ride on the highway to Elowah Falls, or shuttling you to the protected trail to start our ride. About 10 miles (16 km) of biking along gentle, curving, scenic up and downhills along a protected bikeway leads us to a few favorite waterfall hikes. There is an option of a longer cycling experience, with guest agreement. No matter which route, this tour visits some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state.
Like no other active tour of the gorge, we tell the stories beyond the 180 years of pioneers and loggers, before the century-old highway, this was the land of people with a rich mythology. We tell the stories that have been told to us by the Indigenous people as best we can. We remember the long long history this place holds and place the ride and hikes in context for the rocks, rivers and people here before the roads were built.
Our tour also provides several options for active hiking.
