While a few individuals offer hiking tours in Forest Park, until now no company has offered a regularly-scheduled small group urban hiking tour in Portland. It’s time for that to change.
When tour guests asks us, “what one thing should I not miss in Portland,” we pick the hike in Forest Park. No matter what the season, hiking in the park is entering another world right on the borders (and through the fabric) of the city. The experience is unique, as the park is the largest urban forested area in a major U.S. city.
We’re so excited to offer two daily departures for the Forest Park urban hiking tour. The morning hike is focused around the classic Northwest Portland experience, and ends at the International Rose Test Garden, the Forest Park Experience, NW to the Rose Garden (9 a.m. to noon). The afternoon hike starts on the western edge of downtown Portland, weaves through the neighborhoods and up into the park, the Goose Hollow to the Forest (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.). Both pass the same iconic spots (the Japanese Garden, the Pittock Mansion, and the Witch’s Castle), but take a different approach to the forest.
