Oregon has been a forerunner in cannabis legalization since the 1970s, and even better: Portland is the epicenter for the psychedelic, artist-led, spiritually-inspired movement that is cannabis culture in the U.S. Take a 9-mile (14.5-km) bike ride through the city’s — and the nation’s — history, visiting dispensaries and head shops, legends in the cannabis society, both locally and nationwide.
The experience will introduce you to the history of Portland as it influences, and has been impacted by, the story of hemp and cannabis, from the 1800s to the present. Visiting two hand-picked dispensaries, a head shop, and a snack stop, guests will have the opportunity to browse and shop for the finest locally-grown and organic strains, hand-blown art glass and carved wooden pipes.
At the dispensaries, your guide will explain what the differences are between strains like sativa, indica, and hybrids; what percentages of THC and CBD might suit different requirements; and learn why the aroma or marijuana buds can be a clue to what might be best for you. You will have the opportunity to shop for cannabis and edibles, or just learn more about Oregon’s finest farms and strains.
You will also have the opportunity to wander through the world of art glass, viewing the pieces that took part in one of the most dramatic stories of recent cannabis history, and see the spectrum of glass art from purely functional to true works of artistic genius (but still smokable).
When in Portland, if you have the munchies, convenience stores and fast food is not the answer: you will be introduced to one of the best choices for late-night (or late-afternoon) cravings, with a stop for quality, non-psychoactive edibles.
In three hours, you will experience Portland’s culture and history, and shop for cannabis more confidently, along with a beautiful ride through the city’s neighborhoods that locals call “hippie central.” 3-4 hours, $75
